Campaign SightFirst II


Campaign SightFirst II is a coordinated, global fund-raising effort involving all 1.35 million Lions in more than 45,000 clubs to raise funds for the SightFirst program. It is conducted by Lions Clubs International Foundation,the grant-making arm of the International Association of Lions Clubs.Colts Neck is one of thousands of clubs who have helped raise over $150 million to combat blindness.Through SightFirst, Lions are changing the world. Lions’ SightFirst program has saved or restored sight to 27 million people around the world and improved eyecare for more than 100 million people.Here are some of the 2006-2007 achievements.

  • 705,000 cataract surgeries were performed for $40 million.
  • 6 million children have been screened for vision problems.(About 125 were screened in the Colts Neck Kindergarten class through the LEEDS project, below.)
  • Pediatric eye care teams have been established to aid 71 million kids.Refractive error correction was provided for 226,700.
  • More than 61 million treatments for Vitamin A were dispensed,and training for 73,000 eye health care providers was given.
  • This year the LCIF distributed the 110 millionth dose of Mectizan to control river blindness in 15 countries.
