Lions Sensory Den

Update: Come to the Lions Sensory Den Grand Opening! It’s 10 AM September 19, 2020 at Dorbrook Park’s Challenger Playground. Thanks to the generous donations of community members and businesses, and the wonderful support from the Monmouth County Park System, the Lions Sensory Den is a reality.

The Colts Neck Lions Club led the effort to build a play area for the blind, visually impaired, and multiple disabled. Play is particularly important for children with visual impairments and other challenges as it contributes to their growth and development through increased mobility and social interaction. Although the equipment and features are specially designed for children who are blind or visually impaired, we are confident they will appeal to all children who visit the playground, including children in our community. Interaction among children of all abilities is beneficial to all.

The new section of the playground is the Lions Sensory Den. It’s an extension to the Challenger playground at Dorbrook Park. The term “sensory” is important when describing the playground features, as many of the items being added involve senses other than vision. Musical instruments like xylophones and drums enhance this space. In addition to these and other audible features, misting columns are included.

Thank you for your help to raise $125,000 to make this state of the art playground extension a reality at Dorbrook Park.
